Upsy Daisy Cupcake Tower

My son's beautiful friend since they were 6 weeks old also turned 2 in October and I created an Upsy Daisy themed cupcake tower. It was a hit!

I am Back!!

Hello out there! Apologies for my lack of blogging in the last 6 months. Work has been hectic and my son has been in and out of hospital with chest infections.

I have decided that in the new year I will start baking again and hopefully blog more often as good news may be around the corner that will make me super busy.

The 'good news' is not confirmed yet so I will keep it secret for now but I will post about it sometime in Feb 2010. Wish me luck!

Until next time!

I will leave you with the cake I made my son for his 2nd birthday....a Thomas the Tank Engine Cake....my first attempt!

Stolen Pictures

I have finally become victim to this after 2 years of posting my pictures on the web. It is apparently a very common thing and there really is no way of controlling the situation. My flickr contacts were kind enough to notify me of my stolen pics and my pics were of the website by the evening after a very firm email sent to the culprit from my furious husband.

The website is http://www.cupcake-dreamy.net based in Singapore. I had a quick look and almost all of her picture, including her gallery are all stolen! I cant believe they can pass them off as their own. I just wonder what the cupcakes look like that they end up giving to their customers. I am sure it doesnt look like the pictures they have stolen.

All I can say is the Flickr network is very HUGE and if anyone tries to take pictures off our photostreams and claim it as their own - they will be caught!

Dorothy the Dinosaur Cupcake Tower

My beautiful niece turned 1 last week and this was thr cake I created for her. She loves The Wiggles especially Dorothy the Dinosaur.

I hand modelled the decorations and I was particularly happy with Dorothy, although I did forget her tail...oops!

I did two versions of the cupcake decorations but I have yet to get the pics of the other version (large cupcakes with rose toppers in pink, yellow and red)

Black and White Cupcakes

This was for a friend's birthday. I recently bought printed cupcake liners and I used it to select the colour scheme of the decorations.

I also dont cover cupcakes woth fondant but since buying the Planet Cake book by Paris Cutler, I thought I would give it a go. It was a lot more time consuming than swirled icing but th eeffect is great. I wouldnt be keen on doing this for large quantities...

I embossed the cupcakes using the GrapeVine Wilton mat and then used a sugracraft gun to follow the swirl design using black fondant.

New Job..

After 2.5 years exploring the world of cupcakes and cake decorating, I am returning to my previous career as a CT Specialist in one of the major hospitals in Sydney.

This is a big adjustment for my family, especially my little boy but I am looking forward to returning to the workforce with the goal of one day having my own cupcake workshop.

I will still be baking and creating cupcakes but it will take a back seat for the meantime to allow me to focus my job.

Please continue to visit my blog and flickr gallery as my posts will not stop, it will just slow down a little.

Wish me luck!

Ben 10 Watch Mini Cupcakes

Very cute little cupcakes for Aaron who is turning 4. Another Ben 10 request, this was my first attempt at making the watch. All were hand-made using various cutters.

Happy Mother's Day

I had a great Mother's Day with my family. Great breakfast at our local Cafe and then bbq lunch with the rest of the family.

These cupcakes were for the occassion.

Jessica and Todd Wedding Cupcake Tower

A family friend of mine asked me a few months ago to create a cupcake tower for their wedding. The proposal was done at the races and even made it in the 6 o'clock news! So it was fitting to also have their wedding reception at the races. The bride and groom continued the 'races' theme on their cutting cake, choosing to have fondant bride and groom horses to sit on top.

I made 200 cupcakes in total. Half in white choc mud and half in dark choc mud.

This was my first wedding cupcake tower and with it came a lot of hard work and also drama but I did learn a LOT from the experience.

Ben 10 Alien Cupcakes

Special request for a 4th birthday celebration. I have never heard or seen Ben 10 Aliens proir to this request so I had to quickly research on the net.

I created Fourarms using and oval cutter and Heatblast using a square cutter for the head and ival cutter for the face detail. It was quite fidlly but I thought if I can include the features that make the character stand out so the children can recognise them - then I have done my job.

I have another Ben 10 order coming up in the next fornight so please watch this space.

Caitlyn's 7th Birthday Fairy Cupcakes

This creation was for Caitlyn’s 7th Birthday Party. Each cupcake design was personally chosen by the birthday girl from my flickr gallery. The decorations are all handmade out of fondant including the fairy on the cutting cake. The lace butterflies are hand-piped white chocolate. The cake base is white chocolate mud cake and dark chocolate mud cake. The frosting is buttercream and marshmallow.
I didnt have great light when the photos were taken so they are slightly on the blue side which explains why the violet colour looks a little grey…many apologies.

Thanks for looking!

Anya's 1st Birthday Princess Cupcake Tower

These cupcakes were specially created for a beautiful little girl. Princess was the theme of the party so I created a princess tiara and 48 mini cupcakes to match. Each little cupcake had mini tiara's and a mini flower to complete the look.

Tiffany Birthday Cupcakes

These were created for a birthday celebration. She loves all things Tiffany so I created a Tiffany blue swirl frosting topped with a white fondant bow. The cakes were cookies and cream, choc mud, marble mud and vanilla.

Jackson Vincent Christening Cupcake Tower

Christening Cupcake Tower created last weekend for a family friend. Tower included 8" marble mud cake cutting cake. 14 cupcakes that spelt out celebrants' name and 70 mini cupcakes with mini heart toppers. Baby booties were hand made and the cross was inspired by a cakesbyashley...as seen on flickr.

Plane Cupcake Tower

This was for a 1st Birthday party. A plane theme was requested preferably the Qantas Plane. I used the same design but instead of the kangaroo on the tail, I placed a number '1'

The cupcake topper were all handmade using different coloured fondant. Each wing, tail and body of the plane were individually cut and moulded.

Again, another fun project as this was my first attempt at fondant planes.

Flip-Flop Cupcakes

As part of the Hula Girl Cupcake Tower.

I used an oval cutter for the flip-flops and shaped them. They are actually 3 different coloured fondant that I stacked together fo create a multi-coloured looked.

Hula Girl Cupcake Tower

It has been a while since posting. I apologize but now it is catch up time. So I will be posting my latest creations that I have done since the beginning of the year...

This was created for a high school friend of mine who was turning 30. She wanted a hawaiian theme so I created a fondant hula girl for the cutting cake. Fondant bikini's flip-flops and frangipani's for the cupcake toppers.

This was fun to create.

Cupcake Stand by TLC

Another very popular request I get from CakeCentral is my cupcake stand. When I first started creating my cupcakes I could not afford the nice perspex acrylic stands so I decided to create my own version that was a fraction of the cost using cake boards and pvc pipes from the hardware store.

Here are the instructions:

To make cake stand I purchased MDF cake boards in varying sizes and also pre-cut pvc plumbing pipes (10cm height) from local hardware shop and glued them together with super glue.

The top board is 8" then 10" then 12" then 14" from memory for a 4 tier.

I also glued ribbon to the edge to match the colour theme.

Marshmallow (Fluffy) Frosting Recipe

As a member of CakeCentral.com the recipe for this frosting has proven to be the most requested by those who view my work. It is very light and has a nice shiny finish.

I got this recipe from a magazine...

This is enough to ice about 36 standard cupcakes

3 eggwhites
1 cup caster sugar
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
1/4 cup water

Bring the sugar and Place sugar, water, cream of tartar in saucepan over high heat and stir until sugar is dissolved,
Bring to boil, reduce heat to low and simmer for 3 minutes.
( I usually bring sugar syrup to firm ball stage - this ensures the eggwhites get cooked)
Place eggwhites in the bowl of an electric mixer and beat until soft peaks form. While motor running slowly pour in hot sugar syrup, beat until thick and glossy.

This is actually my favourite icing and the leftovers I stick in the oven and make meringues.

Birthday Cupcakes

This was a fun creation. I was given the choice to create 12 birthday cupcakes with my choice of toppers. So I decided to use my new cutters given to me by the relative from the USA - the primrose and petunia cutters. I had left over purple and pink fondant so I used that as my colour theme.

I love these because they are nice and bright and my new favourite "top view" shots of the cupcakes captures it well.

Christening Cupcake Tower

This cupcake tower was created for a christening last weekend. Simple two toned fondant daisy toppers and a cutting cake with a cross and booties.

To create the booties, I created a pattern on paper then cut out the fondant and glued them together using sugar glue. The cross was quite fiddly, I cut out the cross shape, embossed it with the swirl pattern and then using a sugarcraft gun I added the detailed edging.

Fairy Garden Birthday Cake

I am sorry that its been a while since I've written in my blog. I have been busy with orders and I am now finally free for a week, so it's catch up time.

This cake was created for a beautiful little girl named Avaleigh who is turning 1. Her mum requested a fairy cake in pink and purple theme.

I wanted to create a garden setting and I feel the end result was good. I really enjoyed creating this one. I also made 20 mini cupcakes to go along with the cake.

The cake is chocolate mud cake and iced with buttercream frosting - I find this frosting is the only frosting that can withstand the heat and humidity we are experiencing at the moment in Sydney.

Tinkerbell Mini Cupcakes

This was the first of my many orders this month. My sister's god-daughter was turning 1 and the theme was Tinkerbell. I failed miserably at creating a mini tinkerbell so I decided to create flower toppers in tinkerbell colours.

Happy New Year!

Welcome 2009! I had a great Christmas and New Year surrounded by my friends and family. It is especially enjoyable this year as my little boy was able to enjoy opening presents more this year.

New Year celebrations was spent in a nice quiet town in the mountains, a big change to previous years as New Years Eve is my husbands birthday and it was always at his parent's place with the rest of the clan. So this year it was just us and his sister's family. I also decided last minute to bake him a chocolate cake. It was a hit!

My hope for The Little Cupcakery this year is to continue creating cupcakes for people and hopefully have more time to experiment and create new and exciting designs.
